Veracity Technology Solutions. Doing our part to restore power to Louisiana

Veracity Technology Solutions doing what we do best. Veracity dispatched to provide emergency Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) on a customer's gas turbine.

The unit tripped during Hurricane Ida and the inspection team immediately deployed to provide the engineering team the data necessary to determine operational risk on the affected components.

While operating in austere conditions, the team utilized their expert skills and High Definition RVI tools to assess the unit's ability to return to service.

Inspection Update on Compressor Blade Failures

    Updated: Nov 3, 2021

    August 16th 2021

According to the OEM, there is an increased risk for blade tip liberation on the row 1 compressor blades. Causal factors for the liberations include operational environment, corrosion pitting and a degraded material property from tip rubbing.

The best way to mitigate the issue is through advanced Inspections including Eddy Current and ultrasonic Phased Array (UTPA). Our proprietary method is the ONLY NDT provider to develop an inspection methodology to inspect BOTH sides of the airfoil.

    GE 7F Compressor Risk Mitigation

    Updated: Nov 3, 2021

    February 3, 2021

There is new OEM guidance for the GE F Class Fleet concerning the nondestructive inspection requirements of the R-0 and R-1 compressor blade dovetails. Although this inspection is not new, the requirement to inspect the components at the next available outage is an update to the OEM recommendations. The misconception is, that if your R-0 blades have the enhanced undercut design, then the OEM recommendations have been satisfied.

Unless the airfoils have been upgraded with undercut R-1 compressor blades, the risk for blade liberation is still present according to the OEM guidance. To mitigate this risk, the recommendation is to inspect those affected blades at the next scheduled outage. Veracity performs these inspections in tandem with our borescope inspections. Veracity’s proprietary UTPA technology allows for the highest probability of detection in the industry which mitigates your risk at the first sign of a defect. In the fall of 2020, Veracity detected a R-1 crack in the dovetail that was near the liberation stage thus preventing a failure of the component.
